Job Description
GENERAL FUNCTIONThe HC Generalist – Employee Relations (ER) is based at the Western Cape but required to service the coastal portfolio (Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth). She/he works closely with business leaders supporting them in coaching and managing routine and potentially high-conflict employee matters. The HC Generalist – ER is also a go-to resource for employees with questions regarding all aspects of employment with the Co., including but not limited to policies, benefits and performance management. The incumbent also ensures compliance with the Co and HC policies and practices and provides relevant information, advice and assistance to management and staff on matters related to ER. This individual needs to be a strategic thinker and implementer, proactive, innovative and flexible with a passion to grow.
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
• The ability to Implement and administer disciplinary enquiries/ procedures and process
• The ability to Chair Hearings
• Ability to attend to CCMA matters- coordinate with this department for disputes on behalf of the company
• To ensure correct procedures are followed- e.g. grievances are in line with the code of conduct
• Maintain accurate documentation on relevant matters
• Ensure that the operation and performance is effective in all areas of responsibilities
• Development plans for poor performing staff
• Knowledge of staff’s Job descriptions and ensuring they are adhered to
HR Generalist Functions :
Recruitment:
• Assist in the advertisement of all adverts
• Conduct/assist with behavioural interviews where necessary
• Ensure the recruitment process is followed and approved before employment is offered
• Liaise with and build a relationship with recruitment agencies if required
Promotions:
• Arrange and conduct behavioural interviews and administer assessments related to the position
• Assist with feedback
• Keep an updated record of all successful and unsuccessful promotions
Exit Interviews
• Review all exit interviews for the region
Induction and Training
• Meet new starters at induction and facilitate some of the induction presentation
• Training staff on ER or other material as and when required
Resolution of HC queries
• Attend to all staff and management queries within 24 hours and resolution timeously
Strategy & Leadership
• Responsible for senior level decision making and both day to day management and the strategic direction of HC coastal
• Assist in the development and implementation of the HC annual strategy in line with the business plan. Ensure HC plans support the needs of the business but are also flexible enough to cope with changes in the organisation
• Strategically drive and manage transformation and BEE initiatives to achieve established goals
• Effective management of the HC team based at the Western Cape
• Staff performance reviews appraisals to be completed
• Development Plans to be created for each team member
• Oversee the training and development of staff in that region
• Coach, mentor and provide guidance to staff where necessary
• Ensure staff are aware of Code of Conduct and Company policies
• Drive cost reduction within the team
• Drive the Co.’s Vision and Step Up Program to staff
Inter-relations and Support
• Can quickly build credibility and respect at all levels within the organisation
• Build and maintain strong working relationships internally with the leaders in the region (become a true business partner)
• Provide efficient line management support in the management of employees
• Attendance of company meetings and functions/team building
• Building and maintain multi level relationship within Tourvest
• Networking at industrial related events
Projects & Adhoc Duties
• Assist with the management of special strategic projects under the Human Capital portfolio, primarily to ensure consistent implementation at the coast
Reports
• Board Report – submission of information monthly
• Assistance with the Employment Equity, MANCO and ER reports where required

Required Qualifications
Matric• HR related undergraduate/post graduate qualifications
• Training in IR and chairing disciplinary hearings
• 4-5 years in a similar role
Working Knowledge of :
• Intermediate to Advanced in MS Office ( Excel, PowerPoint and MS Word)
