Purpose and context of the job
Comair Limited, a JSE-listed Aviation Company, is looking for applicants for a Senior Travel Consultant (HWT) position based in Randburg, Gauteng at the Comair Travel offices. The Travel Consultant’s responsibility is to generate revenue, maximize productivity, maintain high service levels and reach targets through the fulfilment of email, phone, web and direct enquiries for new or existing customers.
Key Performance Areas
- To ensure pre-payment is received by specified dates in order to avoid penalties & ensure bookings are still secure.
- To customize itineraries, provisional bookings and quotations in order for the customer to use our product, secure a booking, and continue to book through us.
- To deliver prompt, efficient and effective service within required timeframes in order to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business.
- To convert a maximum number of calls and enquiries into secured bookings which increase our revenue & margin.
- To build relationships with suppliers in order to ensure the best possible rates and confirmed bookings.
- To broaden and maintain product knowledge in order to extend the best possible service to customers.
- To perform general administrative tasks required within the department.
Required Qualifications
Qualification:
- Grade 12 (Essential)
- GDS qualification (Essential) Amadeus preferable
- Tertiary qualification in Travel & Tourism (Essential)
- IATA / UFTAA (Desirable)
- 4 years’ experience within an IATA registered travel agency, handling international reservations (Essential) of which 1 year experience includes dealing with corporates/groups/ conferencing (essential)

General Details
The Senior Travel Consultant reports directly to the Operations Manager -Retail Travel. This position is accountable for confirming bookings based on enquiries received from the customers. The critical component of this position is to ensure that all enquiries are converted into sales, targets are reached and revenue is increased. They liaise extensively with the customer and suppliers to ensure all customer needs are met. They provide information; recommendations to the clients to ensure their requirements are included in the specified holiday booking (correct visas, accommodation, transport, transfers, activities, insurance, Forex etc). Revenue - is dependent on the number and type of bookings. Enquiries are distributed amongst the agents either via automation or by the team leader and can be dependent on the type of enquiry (point A to B / Itinerary/group). Telephone enquiries received increases this number significantly. Internal liaison, therefore, takes place within the reservations team and product/marketing team. External liaison takes place with customer, airlines, 3rd parties, suppliers and reservations consultants/sales & marketing on the supplier side.
